Initially commissioned to undertake design and development of playing pitch improvements to a 5 hectare former school playing field site including primary and secondary drainage, followed by a commission to design develop and manage the installation of a full sized fenced and floodlit 3G artificial grass pitch (AGP) to Football Foundation standards but not implemented through Framework.
Then commissioned to undertake a refurbishment of an existing sports centre and the development of new Football Foundation standard changing accommodation, social spaces and reception. Latterly asked to submit a Football Foundation application in support of the changing accommodation.
Role
Having prepared specifications, drawings and contract documents for the playing pitch improvements, SWA managed the tender process and provided Contract Administrator and Principal Designer (CDM) functions during construction.
The technical resolution to the AGP development was undertaken by SWA including all design work, securing planning approval, preparation of contract documents and the oversight of the tender process. SWA were responsible for contract let and Contract Administrator and Principal Designer (CDM) functions for the implementation of the AGP through to completion and handover.
Acting as Contract Administrator and Principal Designer (CDM) for the sports hall refurbishment and changing development, SWA secured all approvals, dealt with all planning and grant award conditions, and project managed the three separate contracts for the pitch works, the AGP development, and the sports centre refurbishment.
The project involved substantial consultation with the adjacent school, local clubs, funding bodies and NGBs as well as liaison with local authority and funders throughout the process; managing the grant claims process and overall financial reconciliation.
Value
The whole project was funded in the main by S106 monies but with a £245,000 award from the Football Foundation. The value of the works was as follows:
- £ 351,320 playing pitch improvements;
- £ 778,460 AGP and associated access and car park works;
- £2,404,260 sports hall refurb and new changing development.
Timing
Originally commissioned July 2013 followed by design work, planning, funding submissions, tender process and contract administration.
